Tuition Assistance Info Sheet

WHAT IS TUITION ASSISTANCE?
The U.S. Army recognizes that an education, while a sound investment, can be an economic challenge for many young people today. In order to help students pursue their educational goals, the Army offers financial assistance for students at every education level – high school, college and beyond.

HOW DOES THE TUITION ASSISTANCE WORK?
Participants can enroll in a variety of programs designed to suit their specific education and career goals. By utilizing various programs, the Army tailors tuition assistance to the specific needs of each individual. Sources of tuition assistance include:

  • Montgomery GI Bill: The MGIB is available to Active Duty and Selected Reserve members. This helps students earn a degree or complete certificate programs, helping jump start exciting careers in a variety of fields.
  • Post-9/11 GI Bill: Geared toward individuals with at least 90 days of service on or after Sept. 11, 2011, the Post-9/11 GI Bill pays full tuition and fees for eligible students. It also provides a monthly housing allowance and an annual book and supplies stipend to help students be academically successful.
  • Loan Repayment Program: This program allows students who are currently enrolled in school or who have already graduated to receive assistance in loan repayment. This option allows students to avoid the worries of student loan debt and instead concentrate on careers or even seek additional educational opportunities.
  • Army ROTC Scholarships: Available to both college-bound high school students and students already attending college, these scholarships are granted to students with exceptional grades and merit, rather than financial need.

WHO IS TUITION ASSISTANCE INTENDED FOR?
Any student or graduate who is interested in continuing their education can benefit from tuition assistance. Whether a high schooler interested in attending a top-notch university or a recent college graduate looking to repay loans while pursuing a career, the Army offers programs to meet every individual’s needs. Tuition assistance is available to students taking classes at any accredited university.
